A Letter from the Chaplain:

Christ Lives! Let us rejoice in Him! 4-27-2020

Sir Knights, Officers, and families of council #13977: Blessings of Peace and Courage as we celebrate the Season of Easter in these unusual times!

Like many others our lives have been disrupted by the Coronavirus and continue to cause grave hardships with increasing anxiety for many. After the news broadcast Monday by the Ohio Governor DeWine getting “back to normal” may be a long time coming.

From another perspective, this is a golden opportunity to experience the reality and power of the Domestic family church. Through our common Baptism and family members we can pray, study, share, and celebrate our Catholic Faith at home with family members. Sometimes families are only two members like my elder sister and myself. We are using this time to celebrate the Mass, study the book of Proverbs, and prepare meals together. Included are some discussions and phone conversations about family and friends. Also I am enjoying a book entitled “Jesus, A New Vision” by Marcus J. Borg and using a “video conference” with a relative who is preparing for the sacrament of Matrimony in September of this year. “FaceTime” is available in many platforms that K of C meetings could also use. I’m sure you can add more from your own experience.

I expect the bishops of Ohio will soon give us an update on the use of our parish worship sites for public Masses. Those of us who are elderly, alone, or with young children may feel uncomfortable in any public setting until “testing” and or a vaccine is available. In these uncertain times the “Domestic family church” becomes the new norm and this basic small Christian community can become a viable means of transmitting the faith, confessing our sinfulness, praying for others, AND waiting for the outpouring of God’s Divine Mercy through the Coming Pentecost Feast!

Peace and Courage,
Fr. Melvin Rusnak, Chaplain
